Pokémon 30th Celebration in South Africa: will reprints make it easier to find?
Pokémon 30th Celebration is the Pokémon Trading Card Game's 30th anniversary expansion. It launched at participating retailers around the world on 16 September 2026, and The Pokémon Company International's US site lists more boxes with release dates up to 4 December. Even if more boxes are printed overseas, we do not expect Pokémon 30th Celebration in South Africa to get much easier to find. In our experience as a South African store, the allocation that reaches this country is extremely small, and South Africa is barely considered when stock is shared out, so we expect demand here to stay high.
Here is what the set is, which boxes have release dates so far, what the reprint talk means for sealed boxes and why we think South African collectors will keep hunting for it.
The details of the set and its dates come from The Pokémon Company's own announcements. The South African part is our view as a shop.
What is Pokémon 30th Celebration?
It is the expansion The Pokémon Company International released on 16 September 2026 to mark 30 years of Pokémon. It was also the first Pokémon TCG expansion to launch on the same date around the world in participating markets. The card game itself turns 30 in October 2026.
Collectors have plenty to chase. Every card is foil, Basic Energy included. Each booster pack holds one of 30 Pikachu cards, each drawn by a different artist. A new rarity, Futuristic rare, debuts with Mew and Mewtwo illustrated by the Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN.
Then there is the Classic Collection: 30 cards from the game's past, such as the Base Set Charizard, brought back with a special foil treatment.
When does each 30th Celebration box come out?
The Pokémon Company International's product showcase gives these dates:
- 16 September 2026: Elite Trainer Box, Poster Collection, Tech Sticker Collection, Pokémon ex Box and Knock Out Collection
- 2 October 2026: Booster Bundle and Mini Tins
- 30 October 2026: Battle Decks, led by Espeon ex or Umbreon ex
- 6 November 2026: Ultra-Premium Collection (Day and Night), Ditto Premium Collection and Figure Collection
- 4 December 2026: Binder Collection
Those are the dates on its US site, not South African dates. When the worldwide release was revealed at Pokémon Presents on 27 February 2026, The Pokémon Company's Japanese card site said the simultaneous release would exclude some regions, without naming them. It added that release timing differs by country and region because of time differences, distribution and other factors.
The Elite Trainer Box came in the first wave, with nine booster packs, a full-art Nidorina promo, sleeves, dice and a storage box with dividers. If you would rather open packs and skip the extras, the Booster Bundle is six booster packs on their own.
Is 30th Celebration being reprinted?
As far as we can find, The Pokémon Company has not announced a reprint of the set or published print-run figures for it. It also depends what you mean by a reprint, and it pays to keep the two meanings apart.
The first is built into the set. Classic Collection cards are reprints of older cards. The Pokémon Company International says they are not legal in the Standard format, though formats that allow the original prints accept them. The Ultra-Premium Collection adds a dedicated Classic Collection booster pack, with three of those cards, to its 29 regular packs.
The second sense is sealed product: printing more boxes. Collectors overseas talk about mass reprints of 30th Celebration, but that is collector talk, not an announcement.
The Pokémon Company International published a statement on 27 March 2025 about products that were hard to buy because of very high demand. It said it was working to print more of them "as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity". It added that it was maximising production for new expansions and would keep reprinting to restock participating retailers. That statement came before 30th Celebration and does not name it, but it covered new expansions launching after it.
Japan gives a sense of the demand. The official Pokémon Center Online there has held extra lottery sales of the Japanese 30th CELEBRATION booster box. On 29 September it said another round is planned for around December, to get the products to as many customers as possible. Buyers who verify their identity with Japan's My Number card get their own entry slot.
Why is 30th Celebration stock so limited in South Africa?
From where we sit as a South African store, it comes down to allocation. The share of each release sent to South Africa is extremely small. When stock is divided up around the world, South Africa is barely ever considered. A reprint that refills shelves in the US or Japan is good news for collectors there. It does not follow that more boxes come here.
Will demand drop if more boxes are printed?
We do not expect it to, at least not here. 30th Celebration is built around collecting: every card foil, 30 Pikachu cards to find and a Classic Collection drawn from three decades of the game. More boxes would not change what collectors are hunting for inside them.
The calendar keeps interest up too. With US release dates running from September into December, there is always a next box to wait for.
Add the allocation to that. Interest in the set is worldwide, and supply here is small. While both stay true, we expect demand in South Africa to run ahead of what arrives, whatever any reprints do for shelves overseas.
How do you buy 30th Celebration from Otaku Kulture?
Our 30th Celebration listings are on the Pokémon TCG page, one per product. Each has a table of exactly what is in the box, checked against The Pokémon Company International's own product pages. Listings marked Pre-order are sold out for now. Drops and restocks are announced in our Otaku Kulture TCG WhatsApp group, which that page links to.
Two shop rules are worth knowing. Pokémon TCG ships from a different location to the rest of our shop, so it is sold as its own order. A cart holds Pokémon TCG or other items, not both. Discount codes don't apply to TCG items.
What should you do if you want 30th Celebration?
Decide what you want from the set before the next drop is announced. If it is packs to open, that points to the Booster Bundle. If you want a particular promo, check the contents table on each listing for the box that carries it. The Nidorina is in the Elite Trainer Box, and the three Kanto legendary birds are in the Poster Collection.
Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres are also on one of our A3 3D motion posters. It is merch rather than cards, so it cannot share a cart with Pokémon TCG items.
Then join the WhatsApp group linked from our sealed Pokémon TCG range, because that is where drops and restocks are announced. If you play, remember that Classic Collection cards cannot be used in Standard, so check the format before you build a deck around one.
